Void Between The Stars

The Voids Between: The Voids Between the Stars (also referred to as the Darkness or Blackness Between the Stars) remain an enigma to most mortal scholars. The Voids are literally empty spaces – gaps – in the Mortal Coil. Magic is of no use in analyzing the Voids due to the nature of the Deus Fields and the Voids themselves.

As discussed elsewhere, it is often assumed that there are but three layers in the Mortal Coil; the Voids offer support to the contrary. It is believed that most Voids Between are worlds that were not created by any power, but came into being on their own and were occupied by dark things forgotten by the modern Cosmos. In some cases, these worlds were pushed aside by overpowers and divine pantheons in favor of new creations. However, other Voids are literally mortal worlds that could have been and did not occur, mortal worlds that existed in another when, or – most frightening – mortal worlds that simply do not exist, that never have and never will. There are even some that believe that the Voids Between are the remnants of a past Mortal Coil that preceded the Time Before Time, lending credence to the Cilidian’s myths concerning The Others. In any event, ancient tomes scattered in the Black Hall Library and rumored to be in the Valernus Library and the mysterious Lost Library speak of creatures, mockeries of life, nature, and the traditional laws of existence in the Mortal Coil, that exist in the Voids Between. Many supposedly thirst for the destruction of this Mortal Coil in favor of their own and owe no fealty to the Realities Beyond. There is speculation that the Demiurge now known as Demogorgon was originally the greatest of these beings and that he didn’t so much create the Mortal Coil as bring a pre-existing realm into contact with the Cosmos. There are said to be Void beings so powerful as to rival the gods and cosmic entities; fortunately, if such creatures exist they seem bound within the Voids Between unless properly called. Unfortunately, on every world lurks the insane and the tormented, cultists who seek to commune with these entities and learn their secrets. There have been worlds lost as a result of the machinations of such mortals, having “fallen” into the Voids Between where most, if not all, life was lost, completely changed, or something else altogether happened.

Void Between The Stars Traits

The Void Between has the following traits:
Normal Time In general, time passes normally in the Void Between. Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own time traits.
Infinite Size
No Gravity In general, there is no gravity in the Void Between. Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own gravity traits.
Alterable Morphic Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own morphic traits.
No Elemental or Energy Traits Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own elemental or energy traits.
No Alignment Traits Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own alignment traits.
Normal Magic Some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit their own magic traits. Note that a lack of connection to certain planes renders some spells and abilities ineffective across the entire Void Between, despite the Normal Magic trait.
Planar Links The Void Between adjoins the Deus Spheres of myriad mortal worlds, but otherwise does not connect to any other planes. The Land of Dreams, the Sea of Thought, and the Demiplane of Shadow are neither coterminous nor coexistent with the Void Between, and spells that rely on access to those planes simply do not work. However, some extra-Deus Field objects or regions may exhibit traits that mimic a connection to such planes, allowing limited use of related spells.
